The attitude of gratitude is the key to a happy life. We all know that, but I forget it quite often. Subandu remembered me kindly. I accidently bumped into him while buying presents for my friends and family on my last day in Bali. He was lying in a bed at the back of his wood carve shop. At first I though he was just lazy, but when I approached him I saw he couldn’t move. He waved at me and I automatically responded with a smile. Sitting next to his bed he told me he had been paralyzed because of a motorbike accident thirteen years ago. I didn’t know how to respond, but he reassured me he was really happy nowadays. He had so much to be grateful for: his family, his books and God. There was only one thing he hoped for: that he could walk in his next life. I hope so too.
